Leather that never goes out of style: MyBonbons, Cubiamo, Metropolitan
- 8 Apr 2019

Once upon a time only true rebels wore it, but today it's a cult to wear on any occasion: if you still think that leather is the stuff of bikers and rockers you're way off. For many years, it is true, leather in fashion represented the expression of rebellion: just think of the iconic biker jacket worn first by bikers in the fifties and adopted a few years later by the punk subculture. A trend that came from the street, but it did not take long to arrive on the catwalk. The first to introduce it in their collections was Yves Saint Laurent, but soon many other designers followed: from the transgressive Vivienne Westwood to Claude Montana and his suits in leather and rhinestones, from Gianni Versace to Ralph Lauren. In the eighties leather become a must on the catwalks of the biggest labels, crafted into every shape, used for every kind of garment.

From that time on, leather became part of the great classics of fashion: timeless, to be worn on every occasion, from outerwear to accessories. Even today. Once again this season leather is the star of our looks: from jackets to trenches, from the sheath dresses to pleated skirts. The latest? Forget classic black and bring on the color, from pastels to more flamboyant. And that goes for accessories, including jewellery: from purses to bracelets, leather comes in a rainbow of colours, perhaps with some shiny detail or some charm, like the MyBonbons and Cubiamo collections from Nomination. More classic and less colored is the leather in men's wardrobes. Total black wins, just as with the indomitable air of a rebel that accompanied the birth of the mythical biker jacket. Green light the accessories, though: steel and leather are the stars, which are mixed wisely in bracelets to wear throughout the day, as in the offerings of the Metropolitan line from Nomination.
